Sleeping at Last "Turning Page"

This is SO very cool!  A brand-new Sleeping at Last song called "Turning Page" will be featured in the upcoming "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1" next month!  Read more about it on their blog.

I blogged about Sleeping at Last back in Oct., 2009, and again in Oct., 2010.  I purchased the Yearbook collection and it is a lovely compilation of songs.

Everybody Cut Footloose

I don't think there's any way it'll live up to the original, but I'm definitely going to check out this remake when it's released in October.  I'm a big fan of Julianne Hough from DWTS, and Dennis Quaid is also stars in it.  The movie poster is pretty awesome, too.  Click here to view the soundtrack song list.  Blake Shelton is set to record the theme song.  Nice!

Dolphin Tale

My kids and I can't wait to see this movie!  I {so} wish it were being released this summer instead of September.  How much are you loving the song?  I thought it was U2, but it's not.  It's "All Roads Lead Home" by Golden State.  Just purchased it on iTunes.

Speaking of summer movies, my daughter and I saw "Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer" this past weekend.  I was very pleasantly surprised at how funny & cute it was.

Summer is here!

Summer is finally here!  My kids and I  spent the day together today just the 3 of us.  They love hanging out with their friends, but I'm going to try and take advantage this summer of them still being young enough to enjoy hanging out with just me some of the time.  We had a really fun time and didn't spend much money.  I snapped some photos with my iPhone to capture our outing.  They aren't the greatest quality photos, but I'm still glad to have 'em!

We joined the Summer Reading Program at our local library and printed out reading logs for Barnes & Noble, Borders & Half Price Books.

We stopped by a brand new snow cone shop in town for shaved ice snow cones before heading to the Dollar Movie.  I got an old favorite from my childhood: fireball & fruit punch poured right on top of each other.  Yum.

I love Meg's Summer List.  She is such a FUN mom!  Love her, love her blog.

It Gets Better Project

Have you noticed the big, purple link button at the top of my blog?  Wanna know why I've placed it there?  I was watching an episode of Glee the other night that I had recorded and happened to see the Google Chrome ad that is embedded below.  The ad features the It Gets Better Project.  I was emotionally blown away and deeply moved by it.  It is my hope that this project and the videos on their site will help the many people who are suffering and may be contemplating suicide because of the way they've been treated by others.  It is also my hope that one day there will be love and support for all regardless of their race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.  Love and equality for all.

Insect Heist Commercial- Peter And The Wolf Score by Prokofiev

I saw this Coca Cola commercial the other night and absolutely loved it.  What an adorable celebration of spring!  My favorite parts are the butterfly tickling the nose of the napping picnicker, and the butterflies dispersing towards the end as he reaches to grab his bottle of coke that has been heisted.  Happy spring!

Great 80's Movies

I was driving around on my way home from somewhere the other day flipping through the radio channels in my car trying to find something decent to listen to when I came across Try a Little Tenderness by Otis Redding.  That song always, always, always reminds me of the movie Pretty in Pink and the scene where Duckie (Jon Cryer) lip syncs that song to Andie (Molly Ringwald) in the record store before she leaves for her first date with Blaine (What about prom, Blaine?!).

The memory of that movie then got me to thinking about some of my favorite movies from the late 80's.  And there were SO many of them!   Great, great movies that I'd still enjoy watching now.  Which ones you might ask?  I'm going to list as many of them as I can remember right here in no particular order:

Pretty in Pink
Sixteen Candles
The Breakfast Club
Weird Science
St. Elmo's Fire
About Last Night
For Keeps
The Incredible Shrinking Woman
9 to 5
Terms of Endearment
Less Than Zero
Mr. Mom
The Witches of Eastwick
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Stand By Me
Adventures in Babysitting
Top Gun
The Karate Kid
She's Having a Baby
The Lost Boys
The Money Pit
Mystic Pizza
War of the Roses
Romancing the Stone
Dirty Dancing
Back to the Future
The Goonies
When Harry Met Sally
Steele Magnolias
Say Anything

Now back to the Pretty in Pink topic for a minute.  Remember that I had heard the Otis Redding song in the car and it had reminded me of the movie Pretty in Pink?  Well, I kid you not, later that very same night I watched the latest episode of Parenthood that I had recorded on my DVR.  In that episode Sarah (Lauren Graham) makes reference to the movie Pretty in Pink to her daughter Amber (Mae Whitman), who is contemplating going to the prom while looking at some vintage dresses of her grandmother's.  That's crazy! I think so anyway!

For Japan With Love

I can't imagine what the people of Japan and beyond are experiencing in wake of the devastating and destructive earthquake and tsunami that hit there recently, but I want to reach out and help.  I've discovered a wonderful opportunity to help provide provide for families.  I read about it on Tara Whitney's blog and had to share it here.

Bloggers from utterly engaged & ever ours have organized a huge fundraising effort for bloggers and blog readers to help raise money for the victims in Japan via ShelterBox.  They've raised over $47,000 so far and the number is climbing!  I'd love to see the number reach past $50,000.

Here are details about this fundraiser from the Shelterbox donation page:

We've all seen the images and videos rolling in of the devastation from the Japan earthquake and tsunamis. While aftershocks and tsunami scares are still happening days later, the nation is in for a long long road of recovery. So far, the death toll is estimated to be 2,800. In just one town, 9,500 are missing. Not only do the survivors have to suffer the loss of loved ones, but as temperatures fall, electricity, water and food are now scarce to none. Many have tried to go back to their homes and to start picking up the pieces, only to find the tsunamis have plowed their homes down and there is literally nothing for them to come home to. Convenience stores have lines hours long and a limit of 10 items to each person. The second crisis has only begun and so many are left helpless.
We are not ones to sit and do nothing. While as much as we'd like to hop on a plane and fly there to help with the search and rescue, the immediate need for help for those in Japan is the dire need for shelter. This fundraising page is specifically geared to help with that. Utterly Engaged and Ever Ours have handpicked ShelterBox as the organization to donate to.
ShelterBox provide emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for families around the world who are affected by disasters at the time when they need it the most. Each large green ShelterBox is tailored to a disaster but typically contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, water storage and purification equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items. A whole box costs $1,000 (US), so we're hoping to raise enough to send 5 boxes.
Please join us. We know it won't save the nation, but we strongly believe every bit little helps. Whatever you can contribute, we truly appreciate.

If you'd like to donate, please click on this link to For Japan With Love or ShelterBox.

Happy Valentine's Day!

My family and I celebrated Valentine's a little bit early yesterday whilst eating some scrumptiously divine cupcakes from Hey Cupcake!

We had been in San Antonio for the weekend and decided to take a pit stop in Austin, and boy were we glad that we did!  We spotted an Airstream trailer with an adorable spinning cupcake on the top as we drove down South Congress and had to find a parking spot pronto to check it out.  The line was long, but it was oh-so worth the wait!  The kids and I each got a Luvcake (they're only available through today) and my hubby feasted on a Vanilla Dream.  Yum-my!!

I hope that you're having a lovely Valentine's Day!

I took these pictures with my iPhone.  I used my new Florabella Vintage and Color & Haze Actions on them and love how they turned out.

Valentine's Posies by The Pleated Poppy

How cute are these.  I just scored this set over at Lindsey's shop as a little Valentine's Day gift to...myself!  I think they'll be super cute on a t-shirt or sweater.  I'll bet that the posy clip will look cute in my daughter's hair, or clipped onto her backpack or dance bag.  Love!  XO

Home- Acoustic Cover

I saw this video on Meg Duerksen's blog, which I'm addicted to lately, and think it's one of the sweetest things that I've heard/seen in a while.

I love towards the end of the video when she asks him "One day I'm gonna whistle?".  How does he whistle like that anyway? At first I thought it was a recording and then realized that it wasn't.
