Pomplamoose "Up On The Housetop" Hyundai Commercial

Remember cool kids Nataly & Jack of Pomplamoose?  They popped up on my television the other night in a cute holiday commercial.  I did a double take and then yelled across the room to my husband: "It's Pomplamoose in a commercial!"

They also did  a "Jingle Bells" and "Deck the Halls" version.  The ad execs at Hyundai must be pretty smart cookies!

I did a little research online and found out that they also did a "Sandman" commercial for Toyota earlier this year.

Joshua Radin

My husband and I attended the Joshua Radin concert at the House of Blues in Dallas last night.  I'd been counting down the days for this event and was so excited to go.  I now have blisters on my feet from standing in heels for too long, and a bruise below each of my knees from tripping down the steep stairs (embarrassing!) that led to the concert room, but it was well worth it.  The show was amazing and we were just a few rows away from the stage.  He was right there in front of us!  I was even lucky enough to score one of his guitar picks that the drummer threw into the audience at the end of the show.  Not bad!

And give it a nice dunk into so Joe T. Garcia's Mild Salsa before eating it:

How to successfully do a Tim Tam Slam

I've read that you can just bite off the corners on opposite sides of the Tim Tam rather than biting all the way across the top and bottom.  Pepperidge Farm makes the Tim Tams.  Sounds yummy!

Big Yellow Taxi by the Counting Crows featuring Vanessa Carlton

I think that this video is beautiful.  I love the colors, I love the light flare, and I love the carnival scene in the background.  I also loved the Counting Crows when I was in college.  I listened to this tape over and over and over again especially on road trips.  Anna Begins was my favorite back then, and who didn't love Mr. Jones?  Brings back memories!  Vanessa Carlton's not bad, either!

Annie's Naturals, Balsamic Vinaigrette Organic Salad Dressing

This salad dressing is the  bomb, y'all!  It's delicious.  I've had people ask me for my recipe when I've used it on salad.  Now, that's good!  Here's my salad recipe:

baby spinach or spring mix greens
sliced orange bell pepper
dried fruit ( i usually do Archer Farms Ultra Berry from Target, or cherries)
feta cheese
Annie's Naturals Balsamic Vinaigrette

It's also great as a substitute for mayo on a grilled chicken sandwich!  I got one from Sonic the other day, asked them to add extra pickles to the lettuce and tomato, and added this dressing to it when I got home.  Yummy!

Rogers Family Film by David Betz

My family and I arrived home last night after having been on vacation for a week to find a priceless gift waiting for us in our mailbox from a dear friend.  We were all tired on the drive home from the airport and were looking forward to getting into the house to change into jammies, brush teeth and hit the sack.  I asked my hubby to make a stop at our mailbox so that I could check the mail.  I knew if I didn't do it then that it wouldn't happen until the next day and I was curious to see how much of it had piled up in the past week.  That's when I noticed it: as I was flipping through the pile of stuff I noticed a shiny blue bubble wrapped package (how fitting for the 4th of July!) addressed to me with the return address of David Betz in the upper left hand corner.  The attitude in the car quickly changed as I announced "It's here, it's here, David finished our movie!".  Forget the luggage!  We couldn't get inside the house and to the computer fast enough.  Then we had to pick our jaws up off of the floor while watching it.  We laughed, we teared up, we were blown away.

My husband and I have been friends with David and his wife, Rachel, for many years.  About 12 years to be exact.  We've gone through happy and sad times together, had babies, been to weddings, been on overnight retreats, had dinner.  The list goes on and on.   Some weeks back they met us at a local park for a couple of hours with their kids and ours and David filmed and photographed our family to create this film for us.  Prior to that he contacted Madaket to get their permission to use their, All the Things You Do.  We will cherish this film always.  A big thank you to David for his time, talent and generosity in capturing us. Thanks to Rachel for her S'mores suggestion, and thank you to the Madaket band for allowing us to use their song!  There are no words to adequately express our thanks. We are so blessed. David, you are the BEST.  Thank you, thank you, thank you, friend!  XO and mwah!

Dad Life vs. Swagger Wagon

My hubby just turned me on to this FANTASTIC video. How awesome is he?! This is SO great.

Dad Life from Church on the Move on Vimeo.

Kinda puts the Swagger Wagon video to SHAME! Don't ya think?

Hamsters are cute!

They're even cuter when they're featured in KIA commercials!

I'm crazy for the the little paw that's tapping to the beat on the passenger door armrest in this one! The heads bobbing to the beat just before that are killing me too.

This one is EVEN better!

It's so FLUFFY!!!

My kids and I saw The Karate Kid and Toy Story 3 this week. Both movies are fantastic, by the way! The trailer for Despicable Me was by far our fave, and Agnes completely killed us with her cuteness. The "he's so fluffy!" scene and "does this count as annoying?" had all three of us laughing so hard we were gasping for breath. That's just how we roll! Check out the movie trailer, and then an Agnes featured clip! Can't wait for this one!

T-Shirt War Goes Commercial!

Suicide Prevention

I read PostSecret every Sunday.  Frank posted this on the site yesterday, and I feel moved to share it here.  The information below was taken directly from  Check it out.

Dear Frank

I thought about sending a postcard but wanted to share a story without anonymity. I'm a senior at Cornell University and at your PostSecret Event here two years ago, I shared the following secret: "My main motivation for applying to the PhD program in Clinical Psychology was to honor the memory of my three cousins who took their lives by acquiring the training to help alleviate the despair of others."

Recently I received an offer of admission to the USUHS in Bethesda, Maryland where I will be joining the Suicide Behavior and Prevention Laboratory. As soon as I received that offer, I remembered the secret I shared with the audience that night and how deeply meaningful it will be to follow through.

It makes me smile to know I'll be moving so close to where all the secrets are sent and being only a few miles away from someone breaking down barriers in the mental health field in a way science has yet to discover.

I still have good memories of the Cornell PostSecret Event in 2008. And being a basketball fan I enjoyed watching Cornell's team go deep in the NCAAs last week. But I've also been distressed to see the lopsided media coverage of student basketball compared to the half dozen student suicides at Cornell this year.
According to Yahoo, 7,573 news stories were written about Cornell Basketball in the past 30 days. During that same period, only 275 stories were written about the six Cornell students who took their own lives.

Suicide is a secret that we collectively keep from ourselves. But if we can find the courage to tell the painful stories, together, we can take the actions that will bring help and hope to those of us who suffer in silence.

This year over 1,000 college students will kill themselves. March is the month with the highest rate of suicides. Here are five ways you can fight back today.

1. Support the Pick-Up-The-Phone 30-City Tour with headliner Blue October.

2. Tell your story (or your friend's story) and learn how Active Minds can help you fight suicide at your school.
3. Join Congressman Kennedy, HopeLine founder Reese Butler, Jamie Tworkowski and myself in Washington DC, April 12th, for the 6th Annual National HopeLine Network Capitol Hill Press Conference.

The Beautiful Pink Book

I read this post by Tara Whitney and was immediately intrigued by the "beautiful pink book" that she spoke of.  I ventured out to my local B&N to see it in person and ended up purchasing it and 2 others that I couldn't leave behind.  They're lovely!   I hope to read them all this summer.  Their bright leather covers are too yummy to hide away until then though, so I've found a spot for them where I can see them every day.  I've got this one, this one, and this one in the back of my mind as maybes to add to this mini-collection for later on.

The Mother Huddle

I just discovered a very cool blog called The Mother Huddle (TMH) via Kirtsy.  This is a description of the blog as taken directly from their site:

The Mother Huddle is just as the name suggests-a place where mothers can gather and share all the things they would if they were huddled up on a blanket in the park.  We are a group of mothers scattered across the country with varying interests, talents and ideas that we share with each other  (and anyone else willing to listen) in the form of a blog and seven weekly articles.

Features of TMH site:
Handmade gift exchange (give a handmade gift, get a handmade gift)
Reader Reviews (fun reviews readers do for us)
Our  weekly articles:
  • Make it Monday (totally random projects you can do yourself)
  • Maria’s Kitchen(the funnest food segment, seriously she’s a hoot)
  • Crafty Kids Corner (fun, crafty things to do with kids)
  • Kate’s Fabulous Finds (product review, or anything fabulous)
  • A Simply~Charmed Life (inspiration for leading a fuller life)
  • Sew be It (fabric, sewing machines, and a seam ripper, need we say more?)

Jeff Bridges, Kris Kristofferson, Josh Goleman

This is totally coincidental, but also totally CRAZY to me.

Hubby and I went to see The Blind Side (great movie, by the way) this weekend, and were watching the trailers for the upcoming films that are being promoted.  The trailer for Crazy Heart begins, and in the first few seconds of it, I lean over and say "Hey, it's Kris Kristofferson!"  Hubby says, no, that's Jeff Bridges.  He's right, it is Jeff Bridges.  See for yourself in the trailer below:

Tonight, I decide to hop on over to Josh Goleman's blog to see what he's been posting.  I run across his post for a video that he shot of Ryan Bingham for the movie Crazy Heart and think, "No way.  That's the same movie that I saw the trailer for this weekend and was thinking that Jeff Bridges was Kris Kristofferson."

I continue on my merry way scrolling through his blog and check out some of his older posts.  I get to the third page and I kid you not, see a post titled "Kris Kristofferson Music Video."  NO way!  Well, apparently Josh shot a video of Kris Kristofferson in Austin back in October.  Love it!

Help Launch IMAlive: a live online crisis network

The Issue

19 million Americans struggle with depression & untreated depression is the leading cause of suicide. 2/3 of people who struggle with depression never seek treatment. There are an estimated 840,000 suicide attempts & more than 32,000 people die by suicide in America each year.

Many people are unwilling or unable to reach out to traditional crisis hotlines. Studies show that compared to telephone and face-to-face communication, people are most comfortable / willing to reach out for help online via written communication. More than ever, people are communicating through instant messaging & phone texting. The primary current forms of crisis intervention and suicide prevention are telephone hotlines and face-to-face (i.e. counseling and treatment centers).

There is a tremendous need for an online network.

TWLOHA has an online audience of over 500,000. Since 2006, we have responded to more than 100,000 messages from people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide.

The Plan

TWLOHA is partnering with Kristin Brooks Hope Center to launch IMAlive, the first live online crisis network with 100% of its staff certified & trained in crisis intervention. Since 1998, 1-800-SUICIDE has responded to more than 3 million calls from people in crisis.

KBHC built the National Hopeline Network by networking 200 community crisis centers through national toll-free numbers, 1-800-SUICIDE/SUICIDA. KBHC developed the software necessary for location-based routing to allow for appropriate referrals as well as emergency rescue. KBHC will develop state-of-the-art tools to manage routing of chats & crisis calls/chats.

Need: 1,000 volunteers to launch. Minimum of 50 hours training as well as a series of tests & screenings.

Training costs $250 per person & will be provided by the QPR Institute, regarded as the leader in crisis intervention training.

Our plan is to use the internet to allow thousands of trained crisis line workers to create the first virtual crisis call center.

The Outcome

Once launched, IMAlive will allow crisis responders to reach millions of people through its custom built instant messaging service.

IMAlive will provide online support to people who are unwilling or unable to make phone calls to traditional crisis hotlines.

The IMAlive network will provide access to online crisis intervention 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will be the first crisis network with 100% of its staff and volunteers certified and trained in crisis intervention.

We’re currently in the BETA testing phase of IMAlive training. We plan to have training for 1000 volunteers completed by end of Summer 2010. IMAlive will launch Fall 2010.
