Always in the Season, by Pomplamoose

mistle toe and silver snow,
and ivy growing on the walls,
i wish i could erase these dreams, i do.

but all my days are running by
in shopping malls with endless lines
i don't know how i got here, do you?

somewhere between the catalogs
of what to get for him
somewhere amidst the china dolls
my vision starts to spin

'cause i thought christmas was supposed to be
more than lighting up the christmas tree
more than filling up our socks with toys
more than all of this tremendous noise

so all i really mean to say
is let's not throw this time away
i'd rather just sip chocolate with you

and if you'd like to treat me nice
don't wait for snow don't wait for ice
i'm always in the season, are you?

somewhere on santa's list
my name's been crossed off with a slash
somewhere i'm gonna find a better way
to spend my cash

'cause i thought christmas was supposed to be
more than lighting up the christmas tree
more than filling up our socks with toys
more than all of this tremendous noise

i'm always in the season, are you?

Modern Family: Cameron's Poinsettia Western Shirt

I'm a huge fan of Modern Family.  It cracks me up every week without fail, and I just love the characters.

A friend of mine and I were talking recently about the Undeck the Halls episode, and she asked me if I had noticed the western Christmas shirt that Eric Stonestreet's character, Cameron, was wearing.

She told me that she and her husband were cracking up while watching the show imagining him wearing that same shirt to their annual family Christmas gathering.  They have some teenage nieces and nephews and thought that their reactions to him wearing the shirt would be priceless.  She'd tried to find a shirt like it online, but the closest she'd gotten was a tropical Christmas shirt, and it just wouldn't do.

I did some digging online and was able to find the exact "Flowery Western Shirt" at this western store.

They've ordered it and are hoping that it will arrive in time for their gathering next week.  I think that this shirt may make an appearance each Christmas going forward!  The shirt is awesome in my opinion and I can't wait to get the picture of him in it that I've begged for.

The Mermaid Girl: The Last Six Months Special

This special about Shiloh Pepin, known by many as The Little Mermaid, aired on TLC last night, and I missed it, but I'm sure they'll be broadcasting it again.  I'm going to do a search for it on my DVR and record it to watch this week.

I love Shiloh's words in the promo clip below: "Who you are inside is what makes you a star."  What a precious girl she was, and so wise!

Read more about Shiloh here.

PostSecret Event Tour 2009- Free Your Secrets And Become Who You Are

Are you familiar with PostSecret?  I am!  Every Sunday, without fail, I visit the PostSecret blog to see which new secrets Frank Warren has posted for the week.

Frank started a project in 2004 in which he passed out blank postcards addressed to himself to strangers, asking them if they'd reveal a secret that they had never shared with anyone on the card and mail it back to him.  He'd introduce himself by saying "I'm Frank, and I collect secrets."

That project has evolved into what PostSecret is today.  Frank still collects secrets, only now people mail them to him from all over the world on their own postcards, many of which are mini works of art.  He has published 5 books containing some of the secrets, does an Event Tour in different cities nationwide, and has connected millions of people.

My friend, Kim, and I drove to University of Texas at Arlington last night to attend the PostSecret Event there.  What a fun experience!  The room was packed and there were people there from all around, even out of state attendees.  The two girls sitting next to us had driven in together from Tyler.

I stood in line afterwards and got to speak to Frank very briefly as he signed my copy of his latest book, PostSecret: Confessions on Life, Death, and God.  I had my book opened to page 103 because I knew from an interview that Frank had done, that he had a secret of his own on that page, and I thought it would be fun to have him sign there.  He not only signed that page, but marked his 2 secrets.  I walked away so happy that I had come.

More of the PostSecret videos can be found here.  If you're interested in attending one of Franks events, check out the 2009 schedule here.

Remembering Emily Sha Martin

Emily Sha Martin was the beautiful and healthy 4 month old baby girl of my friend, Jennifer.  Emily was taken from this earth a year ago today to SIDS.

With the help of Bill & Cheryl Darnell, founders of SIDS America, Jennifer and her husband, Steve, found comfort  and hope.  The Darnells knew exactly what Jennifer and Steve were experiencing as they had lost their own sweet baby boy, Billy, to SIDS earlier the same year.  The Martins have since become close friends with the Darnells and have been able to move forward and honor Emily's life.

The information below was taken directly from the SIDS America website.  If you feel led to do so, please make a donation today.  A mere $1 donation could help to raise $2,500 in the month of November.  Go here to learn more.

July 2, 2008 - November 2, 2008
Emily MartinAfter the death of their daughter, Emily, Steve and Jennifer Martin turned to the promises of the Bible to look for hope and healing, and what they found was a passion and desire to help other families who endure the death of child.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.” (2 Corinthians 3:1-7)
Emily, Alex and AbbyEmily left behind big brother Alex and big sister Abby. Though they didn't get to know Emily for long, her brother and sister loved her very much. Emily was a valued addition to his dinosaur world, often serving as a landmark for a Tyrannosaurus Rex or Brontosaurus to explore. And for Abby, there was no better place for her Barbie to rest her weary head than on the head, arm, or leg of Baby "Em-Ma."
The Martins are expecting another little girl due January 1, 2010. While they wish this newest child would have been able to get to know her big sister, Emily, they give thanks for her birth and the life she will bring to the family and all she meets along life's way.
"Emily was the light of our lives," her parents say. "While we are so saddened by her passing, we are truly thankful to God for the blessing that she was to us in the few short months we had with her."

Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?

I love, love, love this song by She & Him, and was lucky enough to stumble upon this fantastic video for it featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel from (500) Days of Summer while catching up on Krysta Manthe's blog this morning (she's a very talented photographer).  I think I may like the song even more now.

(500) Days was on my list of must see movies, but I didn't catch it while it was in the theater.  I'm going to be looking for it on cable!

Cute & Clever Print & Color Labels

Heather Ann Melzer has created some adorable brushes perfect for creating labels to personalize back-to-school items for kids. These labels would also make really cute book plates or gift tags. I just purchased the set for myself and can't wait to whip up some cute labels with them for my kids. I couldn't pass them up for just a buck! Read a little bit about why Heather created them and see how hers turned out right here on her blog . I love this girl! She's so talented.

Fuse Plastic Shopping Bags!

See the cute owl pouches above? I saw some just like these featured on Rachel Denbow's blog and couldn't believe how adorable they were. So, I found the creator, SoSheSews, on Etsy and then looked on her profile there hoping to find her website. It was there! On her site she has a link to a fabulous video showing how to fuse plastic bags to then use as a crafting/sewing material. Awesome!!!

But then I remembered that I have already logged about fusing plastic back in January. To heck with it though. I'm reposting about it anyway! I love, love, love this idea. I really must fuse some plastic and make something adorable like these pouches. A makeup bag would be awesome! I still haven't started that quilt though. I'll get to them both eventually though, right?

Wanna Watch Elsie Cake Paint?

Elsie did a painting the other night and her friend documented it from start to finish. Love it!

Watching it made me want to break out the paints and brushes. I really want to redo my kids' bedrooms this year. Maybe I'll let them do the paintings. I'll bet they'd be down with that!

Josh Goleman; Cinematographer & Photographer, NYC

All of the photos below are that of Josh Goleman. I stumbled onto his blog via Kirtsy. I haven't had ample time to peruse through all of his brilliance yet, but will definitely do so as time allows.

Adam and Halli's wedding looks like something out of a movie to me. How clever and fun! Can't get over their wedding website. Killing me. So cool.

A Crafty Man Crochets Granny Squares

I am so excited! Who knows when I'll take the time to actually sit down and do these, but Rachel Denbow has posted three fabulous links on the RVA blog that demonstrate crocheting granny squares. She also gives some great tips.

I've tried numerous times to do crochet projects with those "teach yourself" books, but have never gotten more complicated than a simple scarf. Simple scarfs no more! These video tutorials (by a crafty man no doubt) are just what my visual mind needed to grasp some of the concepts that I wasn't getting through reading and looking at the illustrations in the books.

The cute granny squares pictured above are those of the purl bee on flickr.

Wow!

I don't know this family, and yet, this video brings a few tears to my eyes. I can really feel them and their love for one another. Amazing. Michael and Tara have done it yet again. Just beautiful.

Heather Ann's Pillow Case Tutorial

Heather Ann Melzer did a blog post today showing step-by-step how she made the adorable pillow covers shown above. She and her hubby built the most amazing play house for their kids last year and she thought that these would make a cute addition. I think she was right!

Heather has an online store, called Heather Ann Designs, and an Etsy shop by the same name. The first houses her digital designs and the other her lovely jewelry. I've purchased multiple items from her digi scrap store, and the lovely rose necklace that is currently show in the top left side of her header on Etsy. She and her hubby plan movie nights for their kids that are just too much--in a good way. You could plan parties around these things! Check them all out here.
